Snitterfield Playing Field’s “Design in a Day” – The Report!

Monday October 24th was a “day of design” – an  entertaining and exciting day of creative, thought-provoking and hands-on design workshops on Snitterfield playing field itself.

Touchwood Play are a bespoke playground design company. Every playground they create is unique regarding the structures and the thinking behind the play. They offer a community workshop called “Designing for Real”. They were provided with the results of the consultation led by Sn@p back in February 2019 as well as a notional budget of £50k to help Snitterfield reimagine the play areas on the large playing field.

We recruited a representative panel of residents from the most local postcodes, prioritising those with additional physical and sensory needs. All participants, even the most (initially) reluctant teenagers were thoroughly drawn in to these free-flowing, organic and playful sessions, sensitively led by an engaging and genuinely enthusiastic team. Joe, Daisy and Martin come across as experts in their own right and their passion for reimagining play areas shone through.

Joe, the founder of Touchwood Play, wrapped up the day with a summary.

This was a unique opportunity for residents and stakeholders to communicate their knowledge of the playing field and express their ideas for its improvement, both directly and indirectly. The Playing Field Working Group is particularly delighted to have reached additional and new volunteers to help drive the project forward.

We look forward to the results of the day being translated into a considered design for the future that also references Snitterfield’s landscape and history. This design will be used to take to tender and assist with funding applications
